Timing  Day one: Start 0830 – late; may include night exercises
 Day two: 0800-1600
Course Purpose The purpose of the course is to upskill or refresh LandSAR field personnel
with core map, compass and GPS skills to be safe, effective and competent
for SAR operations.
Course Outcomes The overall objective is to improve your navigation skills. By the end of this
course you should be able to meet or exceed the following competencies:

Competency Evidence 
128.01: SATNAV/GPS is set for operational use.
128.02: Fourteen (14) figure grid references are converted to six (6) figure grid references.
128.03: Log and name waypoints and navigate to a specific waypoint
128.04: Log, name and report all significant references.
2.01: Demonstrate care and maintenance of maps for operational use.
2.02: Orientate a map.
2.03: Use the map to describe a route.
2.04: Demonstrate navigation using natural and cultural features to a selected position.
2.05: Estimate route distance and time using a map
3.01: Demonstrate the use of bearings to a defined feature.
