Elderly man with dementia missing from home in Silverdale, Hamilton - found
An elderly man missing from his home overnight has been found.
Graeme Thatcher, 82, who suffers from dementia, disappeared from his Silverdale home around 2.30am.
A family member woke to find that Graeme had left his home, bordering Jansen Park in Silverdale, Senior Sergeant Tina Shaw of Waikato police said earlier.
"They woke up and noticed he wasn't there so they've looked for him in the house and ascertained that he has left."
He was wearing blue pyjamas and grey slippers, and also wears glasses.
Police officers and search and rescue staff had been out overnight searching for him in and around the Silverdale area.
At 7.30am police confirmed he had been located.
He was found "safe and well" in the grounds of Hillcrest High School.

Police would like to thank members of the public, and the volunteers from Search and Rescue who searched over night and this morning for our missing man.
The 82-year-old was located safe and well ten minutes ago in the grounds of Hillcrest High School.

Hamilton Police and Search and Rescue (SAR) are looking for 82-year-old Graeme Thatcher.
He went missing from his home address at about 2.30am this morning.
He was last seen wearing blue pyjamas and grey slippers and may have been heading to the Jansen Park area.
We ask that anyone who may have seen Mr Thatcher or perhaps given him a ride somewhere contact police as soon as possible on 111.
We urge people in the Hillcrest area and suburbs to check their backyards, sheds and other outbuildings in case Mr Thatcher has taken shelter there.
Mr Thatcher is quite mobile, so he may have travelled quite a distance. Public in the Hillcrest area will possibly see Police and SAR in their area today and they may be looking to search properties.
We are working hard to locate Graeme and even the smallest piece of information could help, so please don't hesitate to contact us.
