Senior sergeant Tony Jeurissen said McPherson appeared to be okay.
"The person who was lost is being checked out, medically, at Taupō Hospital

"He looks to be okay but he needs to be checked out because he has spent three days lost in the bush."
Land Search and Rescue and Taupō Police searched for McPherson on the southern side of SH5 since Tuesday evening, Jeurissen said.
"It was a reasonably defined area, but our searchers were unable to find him. We were confident we had all our search and rescue systems in place.
"We would like to say we've had great assistance from the public and people working in live logging areas, as well as tremendous assistance from our volunteer, who came out to help find this man.
"It was a relief he was able to get out."
